Native to the forests and sand dunes of Mozambique and Natal, Encephalartos ferox stands out with its stiff dark green leaves adorned with spiny margins. With an impressive mature leaf length of up to 6 1/2 feet, E. ferox is an excellent addition to any cycad collection.
E. ferox is suited for Southern California’s subtropical climate and will tolerate warm to hot heat and sun. For best appearance, this cycad prefers partial shade and a decent supply of fertilizer and water. E. ferox has a very low tolerance for frost.
E. ferox is a fast grower, and it’s robust and colorful cones can be expected to form 12 years after seed germination.
